“Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth.” ~an-Nisa 4:34 ~
From this ayah in the Qur’an. the two words that have been so erroneously understood is the word qawamah, and daraba. Muslims have misused this ayah to justify their misdeeds and the disbelievers have used it to spread false misconceptions about Islam.
Dr Rida Beshir explains in detail the proper understanding of these words from many books of tafsir and most importantly, how the Prophet SAW applied them with his family. A very important book to remind us all on the correct teachings of Islam and the importance of proper familial obligations in our religion.
